Hi everyone, I literally have this awful pain on right side, it seems to start under the hip, on the outside of leg. The main time it hurts is when I sleep. I have to lay on my back all the time, as soon as I move there is an awful burning pain right down from hip to under the knee. When I get up it takes around half an hour to start to wear off, then I just get pain if I stretch up or lean back. I am trying to get a gp appointment, but nothing available until next week. Its been happening for over two weeks now, so not just a muscular thing (I dont think) would be grateful for any ideas BARBARA

Hello there,
Sounds horrible. Do you have trouble with your back ? I have had big problems with my back ( had sev ops) and I get a trapped nerve and it does sound similar to what I get. I was given amitriptine for this and RA .
Hope you manage to get a cancellation appointment

Hi Barbara,
It may be worth ringing your rheumy nurse, it sounds a bit like bursitis. Hope you can find out what it is soon and get it treated.
Love, Doreen xx

Hi Barb
It sounds very very painful. Is there no chance you can get an urgent appointment at your surgery? You surely can't be expected to carry on like this for a week, especially with children. Make a fuss - you DO get listened to if you kick up a stink - have had to do it myself.
Take care and hope things soon ease for you. In the meantime, have you got co-codamol 30/500 or Tramadol? If not, maybe they would leave you a prescription.
Much lovexxxxx

Mine hurts incredibly at times... some of us have more bottom to hurt!
Its the hip inside that is the hurty bit.
I wonder if you can ask for an ultrasound guided injection. These are the best ones in big, painful joints.
Up the pain relief in the meantime...
Much love

Hi everyone, thanks for the lovely replies I still havent got a gp appt, and was about to ask for an emergency one, (although its not really an emergency) as I needed to get seen when I realised I had to have bloods done this week and couldnt find my appt card anywhere. Its been one of those weeks so far!!! Roy (other half) has been doing some decorating, and in the proces "tidied" away my appt card for rheumy plus the methotrexate book. I knew I needed bloods done, and was sure its this week, so I phoned and was told yes, come in Wednesday. Off I went, spoke to the receptionist as I needed a new appt card, and she told me my consultant appt was this Friday!! Good thing I checked with her!! the bloods were left until then as no point in doing that today. Whew!!!!! well that said, finally you all shout!!! Now I can see Dr Garrood and hopefully he can be of some help, I am really struggling now, luckily I haven't had the two little boys this week yet, they are back from Devon and will come tomorrow and Friday. Georgia, my daughter, will look after them for me with my sister. I dont usually work on Fridays, but Sophie won't mind as Georgia babysits for her anyway. Will let you know what he says, thanks everyone. By the way Jenni, I have alot of bottom to hurt too!!! BARBARA

Hello BARBARA, it's meeeee!
Oh my goodness!
That IS hip pain...it is just like nothing else ...poor you!
What you say about not being able to sleep- this is exactly the same for me- it is weird as one would imagine lying down would ease the pain, but no, it is worse, as if it is pulling and pulling and I end up sleeping half sitting up and half on my (good) side!
SO sorry you have this....Does it ease off at all?
I will e-mail you very soon to catch up!
Love and prayers,
Amanda

Hi Amanda!!!! so lovely to hear from you!!! it seems like ages. Must catch up, I hope you are doing ok at the moment, and baby Grace is thriving, as is all of your lovely family!! This was the story today everyone!! The hip pain is exactly as you say, its so strange, but you explain it perfectly (maybe you should have written me a note for the consultant lol) he says its inflamation, and gave me another steroid jab in the hip (not through ultra sound though, as Jenni suggested) He says the RA seems to to be relatively under control. I did tell him that the nausea and appetite loss on the weekend was getting worse, so he says to take the folic acid every day except methotrexate day, if that doesnt work then its injecting the mtx. He wants to do a hand scan at my next visit in November, although I am getting pain and stiffness there, its not as bad as hips and ankles etc. I also have an appointment with Laura the specialist nurse in September to check how things are going. So, I am to rest for the weekend to give the steroid a chance to work, and I'm not sure what I am to do if it doesnt. BARBARA
